Ying-Hao Liao, Ph.D.
Prof. Ying-Hao Liao is currently the Director of the Institute of Space Systems Engineering (iSSE) and a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Prof. Liao obtained his Ph.D. in Aeronautics & Astronautics at University of Washington, Seattle, US in 2012. He founded the Clean Combustion Laboratory (CCLab) in 2014, upon joining National Chiao Tung University (now NYCU). Prior to this, he served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Clean Combustion Research Center (CCRC) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. His research focuses on plasma applications, with particular emphasis on combustion, space propulsion and atmospheric pressure plasma technologies.
Prof. Liao's research primarily focuses on combustion, plasma propulsion and applied plasma technologies. In the field of combustion, his research topics include flame dynamics & stabilization, plasma-assisted combustion, electric field-enhanced combustion. He is also developing heaterless hollow cathodes and Hall-effect thrusters for advanced propulsion systems. Additionally, he is dedicated to the development of optical disagnostics for combustion and plasma discharges.
