Welcome to Old Tappan Volleyball!
High school volleyball is a fun and exciting sport to play, and volleyball is a game you can continue to play and enjoy for the rest of your life.
Our program has been very successful because of the many special young women that have been a part of it.
If you are interested in becoming a part of a tradition of hard working competitive leaders, then our program may be the right fit for you!
Tryouts: Tryouts begin: August 18, 2025, at 9:00 am. Start times will vary thereafter.
After tryouts conclude (about 3-4 days), teams are formed. From that day forward, team practices are every day, Monday through Saturday.
The Freshman and JV teams practice for approximately two hours;. Varsity may be longer.
High School Volleyball
In high school, volleyball is a Fall sport. The season generally begins in mid-August and concludes in November. Team practices are every day, Monday through Saturday. ALL PLAYERS AT ALL LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AT EVERY PRACTICE AND MATCH EVERY DAY FOR THE DURATION OF THE SEASON. The high school season takes precedence over other sports that are "out of season."
Players seeking to try out are required to register through the NVOT Genesis portal and submit a hard copy of a physical examination form completed by a doctor.

Work You Can Do
Below you will find information about how to become a volleyball player and work on your skills.
3rd – 8th grade: Winter clinics (January and February) at NVOT and NVD
7th – 8th grade: Middle School teams at Harrington Park, Northvale, Norwood, & Old Tappan
9th – 12th grade: High School teams (Freshmen / JV / Varsity)
Ages 12 and up: Winter/Spring Club Teams (tryouts are before high school tryouts each year)
All ages / grades: Camps and Clinics run by clubs or colleges you may be interested in
Rising 8th – 12th grade: Summer Open Gyms every Tuesday (at NV Demarest HS South Gym) and Thursday (at NV Old Tappan HS South Gym); end of June through the end of July 3:00 start time for novice players; 4:00 start time for more experienced players. No sign up necessary - just come and play!
Beyond High School
Many NVOT volleyball players have gone on to play volleyball at the college level. You can too! All it takes is effort and a passion for the game. Research schools that are a match for you based on your skills as well as your academics. You can help yourself by reaching out to coaches, inviting them to see you play, and attending camps they may run.

If there was one team that gave Immaculate Heart the most trouble over the past decade, it was Old Tappan. Head coach Melissa Landeck’s crew was the only team other than the Blue Eagles to win the Tournament of Champions in that time frame. In fact, the Golden Knights hold a 5-5 record in the last 10 meetings with Immaculate Heart, which included wins in the 2015 and 2016 Tournament of Champions finals. This is a team that always finds a way to contend for a Group 3 title every season and superstar Aiyana Whitney is still one of the most dominant players this state has seen this century. While she had her fingerprints all over the 2010 title, it was the likes of Maya Illovsky, Lizzie Chu, Julia Passante, Natalie Alechko and Kelly Brogan that helped the team return to the top of the mountain in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
