Expectations

Sierra Vista Women’s Soccer

We welcome you and your daughter to the Fall Season for Women’s Soccer at Sierra Vista. Through this season and the seasons to come we will strive to develop and put forth a proud tradition. As a staff we believe in a strong work ethic both on the field and in the classroom. We invite you to enjoy and cheer on the players as they establish the history of Sierra Vista Women’s Soccer.

I. Expectations

All players are required to follow and abide by Clark County School District, Sierra Vista H.S., and Team Athletic Policies.

II. ACADEMICS / ELIGIBILTY / NCAA RECRUITING:

It is your responsibility as a student-athlete of a Sierra Vista athletic program to maintain good academic standing. This includes making sufficient progress towards high school graduation requirements and maintaining a GPA indicative of a quality student/athlete.

1. The NIAA required a minimum GPA of 2.0 from the previous semester to be eligible. Otherwise, they will be ineligible for three weeks and considered a ‘non-traditional’ student.

2. All athletes must attend class on a daily basis and when legitimately absent bring in a note to the attendance office within 3 days of absent. Without a note you are not allowed to attend practice or participate in a game.

3. Behavior in the classroom and on campus is monitored and can affect playing time.

4. Traditional students – During the season anyone receiving an F will be on probation for one week. If they do not bring the grade up after one week, they will be ineligible until they do.

5. Non-traditional students. During the season anyone receiving an F will be ineligible for one week. You will remain on the ineligible list until your F changes to a passing grade.

6. After 3 weeks straight on the ineligible list, you may be removed from the team to focus on your academics.

7. All high school athletes should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse (www.ncaaclearinghouse.com) if interested in applying for a NCAA Division I or II scholarship. We have a counselor on campus specifically trained to help you and your parents with this process. Student-athletes should take the SAT/ACT during their junior year of high school. It is recommended that you take the test more than once to improve your scores.

III. Training / Games

Training will be held at Sierra Vista H.S. All players are expected to be present and ready to train. If players are going to be late or not able to attend it is their responsibility to contact one of the coaches or leave a message in the Athletic Department. Practices are closed to everyone except team members and coaches. Any person wishing to visit a practice session must get prior approval from the coach.

A. All players are expected to be on time for every team function. If you are going to be delayed for a valid reason, you need to inform the coach in advance. Your tardiness in any situation will be dealt with accordingly. Disciplinary actions may be imposed if late to practice, team meetings or games.

B. If players miss training or games and do not have a viable reason the following are the consequences: All offenses are documented; all consequences are rendered at the discretion of the coaches.

1st offense – one game suspension

2nd offense – two game suspension, with mandatory parent meeting

3rd offense – removal from team and no Varsity Letter

C. Players are expected to dress and to wear warm-up and game jerseys appropriately. Players shall have their game jerseys tucked in at all times. The unwillingness to abide by these expectations will result the consequences from loss of playing time, parent phone call, and the possibility of suspension or removal from the team with no Varsity Letter.

D. Players are expected to conduct themselves appropriately in school, community, and on the field. It is of the utmost importance to have “class” at all times. If a player displays inappropriate behavior while training, traveling, playing, or after a game there will be consequences. These will be determined and dealt with after the appropriate people have been notified.

IV. Playing Time / Positions

Playing time and positions are decided by the coaching staff. Players are evaluated during training and games. We field the best available players, and prepare all players to perform at the best of their abilities.

V. Injuries

It is important that the coaching staff be made aware of any injuries or illnesses prior to practice. A doctor’s note or evaluation from our trainer, Jeff Poirier, will be the only way to determine your level of participation if you injured or sick. If you are unable to practice, you must be in attendance unless excused by the coaching staff. It is imperative that you deal with injuries through the appropriate doctors or specialists as soon as they occur.

VI. Varsity Letter

A Varsity Letter is earned by playing in six scheduled games (excluding scrimmages, and preseason tournaments), and following the expectations of the Team, and Sierra Vista H.S. However, coaches will have the final discretion in certain situations.

VII. Fundraising

The soccer program will be running a SnapRaise as the fundraiser for this fall soccer season. Other fundraisers are also possible. Any donations or sponsorships are greatly appreciated by the Women’s Soccer Program. An off season fundraiser may also take place in the spring.
