2021-22 Palo Verde Philharmonic Information and Audition Repertoire
The Palo Verde Philharmonic is nationally recognized for excellence in full symphony orchestra performances, having recently been one of only six orchestras in the country selected to perform at the 2020 Music for All National Festival and 2nd place at the ASTA National Orchestra Festival in 2019. Since its inception in 2016, the Palo Verde Philharmonic has only received superior ratings at CCSD Advanced Orchestra Festival. Private lessons are HIGHLY encouraged for placement in this ensemble and private teachers can be recommended upon request by the student. The ensemble has a MANDATORY camp that takes place in January each year for a Friday afternoon and evening, followed by Saturday morning masterclasses, sectionals, and a performance with a nationally renowned conductor. If CCSD permits, this group will travel regionally to perform at multiple events throughout the school year. The Palo Verde Philharmonic performs music from all genres, time periods, and difficulty ranging from advanced high school to professional. Students are required to be co-enrolled in either a concert band or Sinfonia, unless school scheduling does not permit. Students in this situation must communicate conflicts with Mr. Irish ASAP.
Recent literature for the group includes Scheherazade, Rhapsody in Blue, Finlandia, 2nd movement of Tchaikovsky Symphony #4, Romanian Folk Dances, and Overtures by Beethoven, Verdi, and Bernstein, as well as novelty music including La La Land, Game of Thrones, and Minor Alterations 2.

Unfortunately, there will be no saxophone nor euphonium audition selections for the 2021-22 Philharmonic. Students are welcome to audition on any and as many instruments as they would like, and to please keep in mind the instrumentation is very limited for the Philharmonic, so be sure to present your best playing possible to earn a chair.
