Hello Parents and Families!
My name is Alyssa Dorfman! I am your child’s School Counselor this year! Counselors provide both direct and indirect services to support students and families, focusing on three core domains: social/emotional, career, and academic development. Here is some information about the counseling services available:
Individual Counseling- Counselors can see students for about 2-3 sessions, before needing formal parental consent. Recommendations and references can also be made for any needed long-term counseling. Students are encouraged to seek out the counselors for any barriers they may come across but teachers and parents are able to refer a student to counseling as well. A permission slip for counseling can be sent home with your student. Please complete the Counseling Interest Form if you are interested!
Small-Group Counseling- Initially, parents will receive a permission slip, inviting their child to join a group. Groups typically meet once a week and run from 8-10 weeks. Small-groups are a great opportunity for students to bond with their peers as well as work on personal goals.
Counseling Lessons- Counselors provide monthly/bi-monthly counseling lessons per grade level. Many different topics are covered during these lessons such as friendship, diversity, career exploration, conflict resolution, etc. Lesson activities are mostly focused around practicing social-emotional and self-management skills.
