Mr. Diggins'

Math Classroom

I am excited to begin my 24th year of teaching at Silvestri STEAM Academy. I have taught at six schools in Northern and Southern Nevada including elementary, middle, and high school math. Prior to entering the teaching profession I was the Information Systems Manager for Sierra Nevada Corporation in Sparks, Nevada. I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from U.N.R., a degree in Education from Sierra Nevada College, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from U.N.L.V, a middle/high school math certification, I was selected as a Johns Hopkins University Fellow for their Institute of the Academic Advancement for the Youth in 1999, and I was the recipient of the C.C.S.D.’s Distinguished Educator Award in 2004. My interests include mountain biking, The Las Vegas Golden Knights, The Henderson Silver Knights, reading nonfiction, camping, riding quads, country music, playing the guitar, swimming, basketball, technology, billiards, and spending time with my family.

Our school district has begun a new way for students to gain access to their virtual learning environments through a software package called Clever. You should have already received information from our school to access that website to view my math lessons and to join our live classes this school year. If you have not received that information, then please contact the main office of the school at (702)799-2240 to get that information. All of my math lessons are available through Clever, which will take you to our learning management system called Canvas.

Finally, I want my students and their family to understand I am a very structured teacher and I enjoy watching my students learn each school day. I am committed to providing a meaningful curriculum where everyone will be successful in a well-managed and caring environment. I’ll emphasize the importance of how to study and take neat, complete, and accurate math notes throughout the school year. I’ll stress the importance of being self-motivated, working cooperatively with their team, and maintain a positive attitude to improve your child’s understanding of math. I look forward to teaching your child mathematics this school year.
