CCSD Coronavirus Response Update

Latest Information

Message from CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara

March 31, 2020

The health and wellbeing of our students, families, and employees are at the forefront of everything we are currently doing as a District. Ensuring our families and employees are monitoring their health comes first. This can include taking the time to talk with someone if you are feeling unsure, or comforting our students as they work to understand why their environment has changed.

The District’s Counseling Department is committed to assisting all of our students during these unprecedented times. Your children may be curious about what is going on and asking some tough questions regarding COVID-19. If your child needs to speak with a school counselor or social worker, we encourage you to reach out to your student(s) school counselor via e-mail for assistance and support. Contact information can be obtained by calling or emailing staff at the school.

Employees are working in this new environment to support students and families at this time. For CCSD employees in need of assistance, the Life Connection Employee Assistance and Worklife Program is available to benefit eligible CCSD employees. This resource provides counseling services, as well as support for legal, financial, child, eldercare, and daily living needs. CCSD employees can call 1-800-280-3782 or visit the www.bhoptions.com.

As we continue to provide instruction through distance education in CCSD, our amazing teachers have made 308,869 contacts with students across the District. CCSD’s Learning Line has responded to 1,257 calls since it was launched last Tuesday. Our licensed professionals have shown their extraordinary commitment to our students and have our sincerest appreciation.

As we have received many calls from parents and students, particularly seniors, we are anticipating guidelines from the Nevada Department of Education in order to proceed with plans regarding credit requirements necessary for graduation. I will share with you the plans once we hear back from the Nevada Department of Education. Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this process. I commend all students for quickly adapting to this current situation, and want to thank our parents for actively remaining engaged in their children’s education.

Finally, I would like to remind parents to access our educational resources by visiting here, and to take advantage of the educational television programming through Channel 10 (Vegas PBS). For more details related to special programming for students in Grades 4 through 12, please visit vegaspbs.org/learn.
