Sedimentary Models for Energy Transition

MISSION

The mission of the Sedimentary Models for Energy Transition (SMET) Research Group is to appraise sedimentary basins for sustainable energy solutions.

We are a group of geoscientists, engineers, and students combining scientific observations, discovery, concept-building, and innovation to explore natural resources in sedimentary basins and assist industries and governments with the challenges of the energy transition.

We collaborate with local and international companies and scientists to develop new solutions for reducing the carbon footprint of existing fossil fuel operations; improving uranium extraction; and investigating the geothermal, energy storage, and carbon storage potential of sedimentary basins in Kazakhstan.

We utilize sound geological principles and ultra-modern analytical tools and techniques and provide the state of the art education and hands-on training about sedimentary environments.
