Visualization has become an essential tool for data exploration, analysis, and storytelling in many areas of study involving large, complex data. For interactive data-driven applications, visualization can be used as an Interface into the data. By incorporating machine learning, the resulting intelligent interface may greatly enhance the performance of the user. In this talk, I will show many visualization designs made by my group, through which I hope to demonstrate the value of visualization as well as how visualizations are used as information interfaces.

Nowadays most people interact with computers using keyboards/mice or using touch screens on smart phones. However, with the continuing progress of modern technologies, human will eventually interact with computers through VR and AR/MR, or more generally, XR. Is it possible that in 2045 we shall be able to enjoy a powerful VR system as the OASIS depicted in the movie Ready Player One? Many more researches are required to make the dream come true. In this talk, I’ll share some experiences of my group on creating VR/AR contents and on developing related user interaction, with the hope to bring about more discussions on the possibilities of the future.
