SKIN 1 : Squamous cell carcinoma

Specimen 142.mp4

MSK 81 : Skin – Squamous cell carcinoma

CASE HISTORY

Growing lump noticed for six months on upper and outer side of left thigh. Recent slight bleeding from it induced him to go to his doctor. Has not been associated with tar, oil or chimney sweeping. No other complaints. On examination, the base of the epithelioma, which measured 1.5" x 2" in diameter, was freely moveable on the underlying structures. Inguinal glands palpable on both sides, not enlarged on either. Further examination showed calcification of the right epididymis and atrophy of the left testicle. The growth was removed with a good inch of health skin on either side and with the deep fascia. The central part, which was under tension, was not closed and later became infected. This cleared up and skin grafting was performed, about 50% of the small grafts have taken. This is the latest observation (about 3 weeks after operation).

PATHOLOGY

The whole operation specimen has been stretched and mounted. It shows a mushroom like growth of pale yellow nodular appearance and with distinctly overhanging margins. It measures about 4 x 4 cm. No growth can be seen from the deep aspect.
