CASE HISTORY

The patient was a woman aged 42 in whose pregnancy was complicated by the presence of a uterine tumour and vaginal haemorrhage, necessitating hysterectomy.

PATHOLOGY

The specimen is a gravid uterus, cut across to show a large fibroid. The foetus, membranes and placenta are well shown. The lowermost part of the specimen, seen from the opposite side, is the cervix uteri, and it is clear that spontaneous delivery of a full time child could not have occurred.
