CASE HISTORY

This man had pain in the back and dysuria in 1945 (Age 59). In Feb 1948 he was admitted and was found to have inoperable carcinoma of the prostate with widespread secondary deposits in pelvis and spine. He was given Stilboestrol 5-10mg t.d.s and discharged. His condition deteriorated and in June 1950 he became incontinent of urine and faeces. He suffer considerable pain for which a pre-frontal leucotomy was performed. His mental condition improved somewhat after operation, but x-ray showed no change in the bony metastases. He was cachectic and was put on paraldehyde terminally.

PATHOLOGY

Half the right femur is mounted. In its upper two thirds the marrow is entirely replaced by dense white bone. The lower third contains several scattered, discrete deposits of osteoplastic carcinoma. The density of the femur also was remarkable, and great difficulty was encountered in sawing through it.
