CASE HISTORY
Patient was admitted to a medical ward with intestinal obstruction, which became acute. He was transferred to a Surgical ward and a caecostomy was performed which relieved his condition. After he had improved considerably, the iliac colon was resected with end to end anastomosis. No evidence of secondary growth was found. Later the caecostomy opening was closed; afterwards he had a little chest trouble, following the anaesthetic, but this cleared up. He was discharged with his wound clean, and feeling well 21 days after the resection.
PATHOLOGY
A typical ulcerated adenocarcinoma affects the whole circumference and all coats of the bowel, for about 4 cm. The lumen is almost completely closed. The bowel proximal to the obstruction shows hypertrophy of the muscular coat and a little dilation.
