GI 67 : Descending colon – Diverticulosis
GI 67 : Descending colon – Diverticulosis
GIBI 67 : Descending colon – Diverticulosis
CASE HISTORY
The specimen was found at routine autopsy on a case of coronary thrombosis.
PATHOLOGY
A piece of the descending colon has been split longitudinally and one half mounted. All around the circumference over the whole length of the specimen there are numerous small diverticula. They have very thin walls and often communicate with the gut by a narrow opening. At autopsy many of them contained faecaliths, one of which is shown in situ. Between the diverticula, the wall of the colon appears thicker than normal. There does not appear to be any marked inflammatory reaction around the diverticula.
