CASE HISTORY
Admitted on 12.4.35 with complaint of abdominal pain, dull at midnight, sharp at 2am "across abdomen", later settling down to right iliac fossa. 1/4 hour later vomited. Constipated. No previous illness. One examination, well nourished, flushed. No distension of abdomen. Tenderness and hyperaesthesia over right iliac fossa. Some rigidity lower part of right rectus muscle. T (PR) 99.4, pulse 72. Operation: 3.30pm. Inflamed appendix. Uneventful convalescence.
PATHOLOGY
Operation specimen. There is no evidence of old change, but the wall is thickened by inflammatory oedema. There is no decided macroscopic peritonitis, but the peritoneal coat shows a little injection of the vessels. The mucosa is swollen, congested and haemorrhagic.
