CASE HISTORY
A man aged 75, a chronic bronchitic, was admitted to the casualty department, with cough and dyspnoea. He was cyanosed and confused. The lung bases were dull to percussion and bronchial breathing was audible on the right. Chest x-ray showed patching consolidation. Despite antibiotics he died soon after admission.
PATHOLOGY
The specimen shows grade III destructive centriacinar emphysema most severe and clearly in the upper zones.
