CR28: Femoral vein (Left and right) - Thrombosis
CASE HISTORY
An elderly lady , with senile mental changes who burnt her shins while warming in front of the fire. She was quite ill on her admission with some signs of consolidation in the lung bases. Her temperature was not elevated. Pulse ranging from 90-120/min.
PATHOLOGY
Segments of both femoral veins are mounted to show bulbous masses of thrombus projecting out of the mouths of the deep tributary veins. These pendulous thrombi are of the type which break off and pass to the lungs as pulmonary emboli. Many of the smaller veins of the legs were dilated and thrombosed.
