Practicum Script is an online clinical reasoning training software. Rather than measure knowledge, it measures know-how—the way healthcare professionals apply knowledge to resolve complex cases in their daily practice. The school has an active subscription where it is heavily used by Year 3, 4 and 5 students.
There are 3 main steps for each clinical reasoning case:
HYPOTHESIS FORMULATION
This involves automatic and subconscious clinical pattern recognition in the case presented, which will lead the student to generate hypotheses (the best diagnosis, the best tests to do, or the best treatment) based on his/her prior experience.
CLINICAL DECISION MAKING
The simulator presents different clinical situations for the same case; that is for a given hypothesis about the diagnosis, complementary tests, or treatment, new information is added, forcing students to reflect and come to a decision on the impact of the new information in relation to the proposed hypothesis.
OBSERVATION OF RESULTS
At the end of each exercise, the simulator provides personalized performance indicators to facilitate efficient reflection on what happened by showing the student the possible results, from multiple points of view, and alternative decisions about the same case.
