2013 Gulf Coast Local Student Chapter Leadership Summit - Local AAPG student chapter leaders met on Thursday and Friday at the ExxonMobilGreenspoint office for the 2013 Gulf Coast Local Student Chapter Leadership Summit. The primary goal of the meeting is to provide a way for sutdent chapters in the same region to meet, share their experiences, and work together to improve their groups. A special focus this was made this year to brainstorm ways of increasing diversity in AAPG student chapters and geoscience here in the United States.

Johnathon Osmond represented the University of Houston chapter, and was joined by students from Rice University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas A&M University, University of New Orleans, Angelo State University, Auburn University, University of Miami, Florida International University, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, and University of Texas at San Antonio. The representative from the University of Texas at Austin was unable to attend the meeting. The AAPG leaders who organized the event were also in attendance. They all were industry professionals here in Houston from ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Marathon Oil. They were there to meet with the sudent leaders and lead the group discussions.

Overall, the meeting was very successful! Many lessons were learned, and our chapter will benefit greatly from the meeting. A huge thank you goes out to Bob Stewart, Earl Wells, Reggie Beasley, and Marla Sims from ExxonMobil, Bryant Fulk and Richard Ball from Chevron, Ali Sloan from Marathon Oil, and all of the other professionals and AAPG representatives who attended the LSCLS. We look forward to next year's summit!
