Anatomy & Physiology

Course Description

Anatomy & Physiology is an advanced class looking at the structures of the human body, and how these structures function. This is not a Health class, students in A&P should be interested in attending college seeking a profession in the medical field. This course will dive into great details about the human body with the expectation of preparing the student for a college level A&P class.


Course Goals and Objectives

  1. To motivate, instruct, and excite students about the fields of Anatomy & Physiology.
  2. To help students appreciate the beauty, order, and connections found in the natural world.
  3. To demonstrate the everyday applications of Anatomy Physiology in humans’ lives.
  4. To actively involve students in their study of Anatomy & Physiology.
  5. To encourage students to use higher order processing and critical thinking skills.
  6. To assist students to think in an organized manner about problems they encounter.
  7. To provide students with an appreciation for Anatomy & Physiology as a human endeavor.

Course Topics:

Introduction to A&P- terminology, body cavities, body planes, and the 11 organ systems.

Cells- cell types found in the human body, form and function.

Tissues- different tissues found in the human body, form and function.

Skeletal system- naming bones, bone identification, joints, and joint movements.

Cardiovascular system- heart, blood, blood vessels, and the pathway of blood.

Muscular system- naming muscles, muscle identification, muscle movements.

Respiratory system- lung function, gas exchange.
