Welcome to English Language Arts and Social Studies! My name is Ms. Wilde, and I am so excited to have the 6th and 5th grade students this year! Below are short descriptions of what students will be learning in both subjects this year and our 6th grade homeroom! :)
SOCIAL STUDIES
5th Grade's Social Studies focus is on United States History. We will be learning how to be social studies detectives and exploring the following essential questions together:
How were the lives of Native Peoples influenced by where they lived?
What happened when diverse cultures crossed paths?
What is the impact of people settling in a new place?
and more!
6th Grade's Social Studies focus is on Ancient World History. We will be learning how to think like a historian and exploring the following essential questions together:
How does a historian interpret history?
What were early humans like and what do we have in common with them?
What was the culture of ancient Egypt, Kush, Greece, China, Korea, Japan, Rome, and Africa?

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
5th Grade's English Language Arts focus is on developing our reading stamina, learning to write paragraphs, and learning new vocabulary. Our class is currently reading The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo.
6th Grade's English Language Arts focus is on further developing our reading stamina, writing and revising paragraphs, and learning new vocabulary. Our class is currently reading Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.
