Mr. Rockwell - Science and Social Studies
The Science and Social Studies classes will be taught in 75 min blocks. Science will be taught on Monday's and Wednesdays and Social Studies will be taught on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Friday's could be both or a single subject depending on what we are doing that particular week. In Science & Social Studies this year we will implement an Inquiry Approach to learning. Meaning, teacher demonstrations for labs, activities and whole group learning will be implemented. Cooperative groups will be utilized when needed and the students will be encouraged to work together and collaborate as much as possible. Science & Social concepts will be taught through assigned readings, short answered packets, videos and short assessments to master the content for the week as well. The concept covered each week as well as all assignments will be posted on the Daily Assignment page on this website. We will also utilize our Science/Social Studies Google Classroom when needed for particular assignments but that will NOT be are primary source of learning. The students will be asked to use their agendas to write down assignments daily. By organizing the Science & Social Studies Classroom this way, the students will be engaged throughout the week and this should make it easier for the Parents/Guardians at home. Grades will be posted each week on the Grading Portal as we go along through the year.
All Graded Assignments will be posted on the Grading Portal each week. If you do not see a grade, it means your student did not turn in that particular assignment. As a Parent/Guardian, this will be a fast and easy way you can check in on the progress of your student as the school year goes along. Information on how to sign up for the grading portal can be found on our team site using the link posted below.
Typical Year Schedule:
Science - Monday & Wednesday's - 75 minutes
Social Studies - Tuesday's & Thursday's - 75 minutes
Friday's will be used for both subjects or one depending on what we are doing on a particular week.
Science and Social Studies will be taught every other day with the 75 minute block. This schedule will give us a lot of flexibility to develop hands on experiments/activities that go along with the curriculum. The daily schedule will be posted each morning so the students know only to bring materials for that particular subject on that day!
I will have the students sign up for my Google Classroom when they are in person the first week of school. Below you will see the sign up information if needed. Please remember this will not be the primary source for assignments, only larger assignments where we will use Google slides or Forms.
