Early Rise Program
Grades 3-5
Grades 3-5
Welcome to our classroom! My name is Stacey Southard and I am a special education teacher in the Early Rise Program. I am here to support students with a wide array of disabilities to effectively access the curriculum. I work closely with students who have Individual Education Plans to help them be successful in both their academics as well as their social and emotional needs.
This year, we'll explore exciting subjects, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and work together to achieve your academic and personal goals. I believe that learning is a collaborative process, and I'm here to support you every step of the way.

The Early Rise program is an inclusive therapeutic program supporting students in grades 3-5.This programming supports students who are significantly impacted by mental health. Housed in Florence Sawyer, the program has many therapeutic spaces students can access throughout the day when experiencing a larger emotion. The students have access to a School Adjustment Counselor, a Special Educator, and several Instructional Assistants who support them throughout the day. The Early Rise students work to develop skills including: self-management, self-awareness, social & relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Students in the Early Rise Program are on an Individualized Education Plan. Students are integrated into the general education classroom and experience the same curriculum as their peers with support from program staff to maintain success. Some students have access to activities throughout their day as part of a behavioral incentive program. Some of these activities include games with staff, access to the courtyard, sensory activities, or building tasks. Academic support is individualized to each student with an embedded therapeutic approach that helps students access the curriculum to the best of their abilities.
