Welcome to Literacy Support! Our names are Stacey Smith and Kristin Rutter, and we are the K-5 Literacy Specialists at The Center School.
For reading intervention, we utilize an explicit and systematic phonics program for the students who will benefit from this approach. We also target areas of need in phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. We work with students in grades K through 5 based on district-wide entrance criteria.

Class Overview
To meet the varying needs of all of our students, we provide a range of intervention approaches based on student assessments. We implement the UFLI phonics program with students in grades K-2 (and grade 3 where appropriate). We also utilize the Heggerty program for phonemic awareness in grades K-2. The Wilson Just Words program provides support for decoding and encoding in grades 4-5. We also utilize many other strategies and resources to address needs in vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
