Anticipated Units of Study

Reading

Students will read a variety of both fiction and non-fiction texts throughout the year.  Students will study short stories, read whole class texts, and participate in literature circles.

Writing

Students will engage with writing through a variety of formats including quick writes, writing about reading, and lengthier pieces that will go through the steps of the writing process.  Students will work on narrative, response to text, and argument writing assignments.  

Vocabulary and Grammar

Students will be learning new vocabulary through their reading as well as through our shared texts.  Grammar and mechanics will be taught throughout the writing process.
