About Ms. Jami
Ms. Jami was born in Santiago, Chile and adopted when she was 3. She grew up in Westfield, MA in a family full of educators (her Aunt and Uncle are retired principals back home and her cousin teaches Middle School.) She has no adopted sibilings, but was able to connect with her 2 biological sisters. Her sister Jazmin is 21 and lives in Chile while her sister Jennifer lives in Delaware with her wife and animals.
Ms. Jami spent her summer facilitating professional development ACROSS the US to teachers who are learning best practices in literacy instruction. For the past school year she was a Goyen Fellow and this year she's a member of DESE's SPA Panel for Performance Assessments in Science.
Most recently, Ms. Jami was a 2nd grade teacher in Providence, Rhode Island at the Croft School where she made deep and lasting connections with both a STEAM educator at RWU and the Narragansett Bay Commission's Watershed Explorers Program.
About Miss Tornovish
Miss Tornovish has lived on Nantucket her whole life and attended NES when she was in elementary school! Growing up, Miss Tornovish played field hockey, basketball, and softball for the Whalers and graduated from NHS in 2009. She still enjoys being active and has run five marathons in New York City, Boston, Chicago, London, and Berlin. Next up is Tokyo!
Miss Tornovish's favorite thing to do is spend time with her family- her daughter Kendall, boyfriend Patrick, and their two dogs Chesney and Reilly. As a family they like to go on walks/runs, to the beach, and spending time with friends.
Miss Tornovish has been teaching at NES for 12 years! She started in 2013 as a TA in third grade and then in first grade before becoming a second grade teacher for eight years. Miss Tornovish moved into the STEAM position in 2023 and has loved every second of it! She is very excited to keep learning about and teaching STEAM with Ms. Jami!
