NMT Lunabotics is a student-run design team formed in 2021 to compete and NASA's annual Robotic Mining Competition (RMC).
Our mission is to explore the engineering challenges associated with lunar excavation and provide students and the community the means to explore real-world engineering concepts.

This official video was sent to NASA for participation in the 2023 RMC Competition.
Last year was our second year competing. Learn more about the project evolution and see footage from our runs during the competition at the Kennedy Space Center.
NASA’s Robotic Mining Competition (RMC) is a national competition held yearly by participating universities. The goal of the competition is to design and build a lunar mining robot. The competition is hosted by NASA in the spirit of aiding the upcoming Artemis mission, which aims to return people to the lunar surface in the next decade. This competition trains future engineers in the process of real-world engineering design and culminates in a live demonstration of an autonomous lunar robot at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in May of 2022.

As part of NASA’s RMC Lunabotics Competition, we will be leading public outreach events on our University’s campus and in our community. These might include partnerships with other clubs at our school, teaching concepts to K-12 students during school events, learning sessions for new students at the school, and online outreach.
We have a talented and diverse team spanning multiple majors, genders, and ethnicities. We welcome any and all who are interested to join our team, and we are encouraging multidisciplinary cooperation among our team members, a truly unique and rare experience for undergraduates for our students at New Mexico Tech to have. Our team is separated into two main sub-groups: Mechanical and Software/Controls.
