What Should My Practice Time Look Like?
What Should Practice Time Look Like (If Practicing for 30 Minutes)?
Warm Up (5 minutes)
- Play one page from your instrument-specific warm up packet
- Focus on creating the best tone possible and making your sound better each day. Create a smooth connection between each note. If something doesn’t sound smooth, go back and try it again until it gets better.
- For an added challenge, try playing while looking at a tuner.
Scales (5 minutes)
- Play the scales we are currently working on with a metronome. Set the metronome slow enough that you can play it perfectly, then speed it up a tiny bit each day. For an extra challenge, try it with different articulations.
Articulation (2 minutes)
- Play your articulation exercise and work on creating contrast between the different types of articulation
Music (15 minutes)
- Practice your band music, or any music you are working on for things like IMEA district auditions, Solo & Ensemble, or private lessons.
- Remember to use the practice strategies on the next page!
Play for fun! (3 minutes)
- Do you have a favorite song you want to play? Or maybe you just want to play through all your band music without stopping? Use your last 3 minutes as a reward for your hard work!
