Mrs. Mendez's Bio

Teacher of the Gifted and Talented

My name is Mrs. Jen Mendez and I am excited to begin my fifteenth year in education as the GT teacher at Brookside, Naramake, and Rowayton Elementary Schools! I am a wife and a mom to three beautiful children, Jacob, Sienna, and Nia Mendez. I have two dogs, Coco and Mateo, and a cat named Tallulah (aka TuTu). Being a mom and a teacher have been the most fulfilling roles of my life.

As a young student at Fordham University studying sociology, a desire was fostered to work with children and make a positive impact on the world. After getting a Masters in Elementary Education from The University of Bridgeport, I began my career teaching second then third grade at Rowayton School. Shortly after I began teaching, I received a Sixth Year Degree at Southern CT State University where I focused on different philosophies of teaching and centered on gifted and talented education. I began teaching in the field of gifted and talented 9 years ago and love the work that I do. It was a personal goal to ensure that all students had access to interventions and strategies that would allow them to reach their fullest potential.

I greatly look forward to all of the exciting changes taking place for our program this year. As part of the new initiatives, I am heading back to the books at UCONN to obtain a Certificate in Gifted Education and Talent Development. I hope to be a living example of what a life long learner should be and will eagerly employ this new education in my schools.
