About Mr. Hemsley
Thanks for visiting the Northwood CS Music Program's site. I'm extremely excited to be in my first year here at Northwood. I hope to get to know you better through class, meetings, over the phone, or email. In the meantime, let me tell you a little about my self.
- I graduated Berklee College of Music with a bachelors in music education. My principal instrument was drum set and percussion.
- I graduated from Boston University with a masters in music education.
- I spent the summer of 2010 studying composition in Paris, with some of Europe's best composers from the Conservatory at Fontainebleau.
Teaching: I've been teaching music since 2007. I've taught grades preK-12, and am happy to be here working with grades K-8. I've taught music from just about every angle; band, orchestra, classroom music, choir, etc.. It is my desire to grow Northwood's music program to include as many opportunities as possible for students to participate.
Musician: I had my first lesson at age of six, but didn't take up the drums until the fourth grade. My experience was limited to school until college, when I began to perform. Aside from playing percussion and drum set, I often conduct professionally either in a concert band/orchestra setting, or in a musical theater setting. I also compose my own music (with premiers in both Boston, MA, and Paris, FR), and arrange music for specific ensembles.
I hope this has given you a brief snapshot into my life. Thanks again for reading!
