These are links to the Little Kids Rock lesson sets for modern band instruments. This method focuses on performing right away as opposed to taking the time to read music notation. They use an easier-to-read symbol system to figure out notes and rhythms. You can use this as a jumping point for instruments that you aren't as familiar with, or a new way to connect with an instrument that you already know.
One thing that I was excited to start working on with all of you was writing your own music. Unfortunately, we won't be able to do that together as a group, but here are some videos on how to get started if that is something you find interesting!
The Modern Band class was introduced recently as an emerging ensemble for high school. Using the curriculum provided by Little Kids Rock and Steven Van Zandts' TeachRock, Modern Band students learn a variety of non-traditional band instruments and singing styles. All members of the band get the chance to sing lead and play guitar, bass, ukulele, drum set, and piano. They can also play a variety of styles such as rock, pop, Latin, hip hop, blues, R&B, and heavy metal.
