NEAAAT RLP Day

10/26/2018

On Friday, October 26, 2018 NEAAAT students participated in a Remote Learning Protocol (RLP) Day. During RLP days, students are "in school", but not "at school". Students are at satellite locations, participating in educational experiences that extends learning into students' homes, communities, and sometimes all over the world.

The 10/26/2018 RLP Day has a focus on (1) Water and (2) The Effects of Hurricanes on Our Natural Resources.

Middle Grades Students will meet in three different satellite locations: (1) The Museum of the Albemarle, (2) The Perquimans County Recreation Center, and (3) The Chowan American Legion Post. Students will meet community partners who prepare and respond to hurricanes, conduct water quality studies, engage in an art project that will incorporate science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

High School students will travel to Craven County for a day of service learning activities. High school students and staff will volunteer at the Jasper Q. Hayes Omega Center in New Bern, NC. The Omega Center is a Hurricane Disaster Relief Distribution Center. The center distributes clothing, food, furniture, building materials and many other items needed by families affected by Hurricane Florence.

NEAAAT is broadening our RLP Days to include community engagement and service learning opportunities. These activities support the charter of our school and our mission to provide a "World Class STEM Education for All".
