Our Elementary School recently added some new and exciting activities to their makerspace toolbox! Introducing Code & Go® Robot Mouse Activity Set AND LEGO® Education Coding Express!

The Code & Go® Robot Mouse Activity Set - Allows students to build a maze and then use coding cards to create a step-by-step path for Colby, the Programmable Robot Mouse to find the cheese. A great way to introduce the concept of coding.

The LEGO® Education Coding Express - Brings a classic train set to life with action bricks while introducing early coding concepts (sequencing, looping, problem solving skills, critical thinking, collaboration, etc.) to early learners.

In addition, we also have these favorites...

LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 Core Kits - Based upon the latest science standards, these kits were created to enhance students' curiosity and science skills. Students build various items using Legos as well as motors and tilt/motion sensors. They bring their creations to life through coding. Using thinking skills such as logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and modeling simulations they will also learn engineering skills.

Osmo - Enables iPads to merge the power of physical play with the digital advantages of real-time feedback. Playing beyond the screen invites students to collaborate on tables or floors while manipulating tangible game pieces such as number tiles, letter tiles, and coding blocks.

Green Screen | Video Camera | iMovie | iPad with the App Green Screen by Do Ink - These tools bring out our students inner creativity, build confidence when presenting, and helps them practice their public speaking skills. Watch an edition of the NCNN Broadcast made with these tools by clicking HERE.

Dremel 3D Printer - Great for inventing, creating, hands-on learning, and so much more!

Green Screen | Video Camera | iMovie | iPad with the App Green Screen by Do Ink

iMovie lets students edit their videos and tell stories like never before!

With Green Screen by Do Ink, students can tell a story, explain an idea, and express themselves in truly creative and unique ways.

Green Screens are used in the movies to make it look like the actors have landed on an alien planet, and it's used on TV to make it look like your local news announcer is standing in front of a weather map. The green screen effect works by combining images from multiple sources into a single video. These images can come from photos or videos in your camera roll, or from the live video camera.

Mrs. Gronachan incorporates these tools to produce the North Collins News Network (NCNN) broadcast. Take a look at this production with special guest, Mr. Martin Biron, former Buffalo Sabre Goalie and current MSG commentator. He spent time talking to our 5th Grade class and then had lunch with the News Crew. Students were able to ask him questions and have a wonderful conversation. The News Crew video recorded their time with him and then edited and produced this wonderful news piece.
