Ms. Carrie Seiden

The 2020/2021 school year will be Ms. Seiden's twelfth year at TVES. She is passionate about getting books into the hands and hearts of kids--all kids, even the picky readers! Ms. Seiden is a huge fan of technology. In the past three years, TVES students have been introduced to computer coding, google cardboard, finch robots, squishy circuits, etc. She is always on the lookout for the next opportunity to "pilot" new tech (Let her know if you have any suggestions!). Ms. Seiden works closely with R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison to bring some of the biggest names in children's literature to TVES, including two Newbery winning authors, Kate DiCamillo (Because of Winn-Dixie, The Tale of Despereaux) and Katherine Applegate (The One and Only Ivan, Crenshaw) and many other New York Times bestselling authors such as Lincoln Pierce (Big Nate Series), Chris Grabenstein (Mr. Lemoncello's Library) and Adam Gidwitz (The Unicorn Rescue Society, Tales Dark and Grimm), to name only a few. Gene Luen Yang, the former National Ambassador of Literature for Young People, visited the school to promote his Code Breakers graphic novel series. Currently, Ms. Seiden is dreaming up a makerspace for the library. If you are unfamiliar with the term, a makerspace is a creative place where young people have an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, and experiment with tools and materials. The maker movement is about teaching and learning that is focused on student-centered creation and innovation. (If you want to see a makerspace in action, visit the Branford or Wallingford public libraries.) Ms. Seiden enjoys traveling, baking cookies and making homemade play-doh (it's true!). A good day for Ms. Seiden is when she learns just as much as her students! You can follow Ms. Seiden on twitter @lovealibrary.

Ms. Seiden lives in Branford with her fur child, Oreo Seiden. As far as Oreo is concerned, Ms. Seiden should put down her library books and throw a ball instead...
