Long vs Short vowels: Remember, friends- long vowels say their names, short vowels make their sounds!

2c. Silent e (cvce)

Today we will be learning more about long vowels. When we see an "e" at the end of our one-syllable word, we know that the vowel will say its name (or long vowel sound), and the e will stay silent. We call this sneaky e.

Watch the lessons below:

Stretch and write the following words. Remember to add the silent e at the end!

  2. Who does Charlie wave to at the pharmacy?

  3. How do the words and pictures help you understand what a bank teller is?

5b. Benchmark Vocabulary

5c. Reading Analysis

Unknown Words

Readers can ask and answer questions about words they do not know

When I read a word or phrase I don't know, I ask questions to help me figure out what the word or phrase means. Then I look for clues in the words and pictures to find answers. Charlie and Mama go to the post office. What is a post office? The text says Mama buys stamps there and one of the pictures shows a mailman. I think the post office is a place that takes care of mail.
