THE CURIOUS SAVAGE
When wealthy widow Ethel P. Savage inherits approximately ten million dollars, she decides she would rather use the money to help people pursue their dreams than leave it to her three greedy stepchildren. Furious that they cannot control her fortune, the Savages have Ethel committed to The Cloisters, a residential psychiatric institution, hoping to force her to reveal where she has hidden the money.
Instead, Ethel discovers a community of eccentric but compassionate people who accept one another's unusual ways of seeing the world. As the play unfolds, the supposed "sane" people outside the institution prove considerably more cruel, selfish, and irrational than the people inside it. This comedy ultimately asks a surprisingly serious question: Who gets to decide what is normal?
