Welcome! SITE IS LAUNCHED! Continuing to construct/revise!
This service learning experience is designed for 11th & 12th grade students who have interest in a career in education and/or would benefit from this opportunity. Younger students may participate with administrative approval. Students will work side by side with a mentor-teacher or office person in the school.
Before applying, PLEASE visit with the teacher/Office that you are interested in working with. Talk about what period you have available, and what you will be doing with/for them.
Program participants must read and sign the Orientation sheet (below), which outlines program rules and expectations.
Attendance is critically important. You are responsible for contacting your mentor teacher if you must be absent. If you miss more than 3 days, you must make up the time.
Application Guidelines:
* You are NOT enrolled as a High School Teacher/Office Helper until:
You have submitted all required paperwork,
The Office/Teacher approves of the placement,
AND your counselor puts it in your schedule.
* You can request a particular teacher/staff person, but the teacher/office must approve, and final placements must be approved by the Principal.
* The School to Work Coordinator oversees the program. If you have any questions, contact jim.schneider@north-scott.k12.ia.us , call 563-285-3203 or stop by to see him in the Counseling Department.
* At the end of your experience (whether it’s one or two semesters) you are required to write a Reflection paper to earn credit (see below).

Or, if you aren't all that interested/committed to obtaining any recommendations, or any scholarships, a minimum effort of one double-spaced page with 1 inch margins, using a 12 point Times New Roman will suffice.
Also, be sure to write a thank you note/email to your mentor teacher! (Need help writing a thank-you? Ask Mr. Schneider for assistance, he will likely even provide a selection of thank-you notes if you ask nicely.
