Welcome Back to School! Welcome to Norridge, New Families! Welcome to Middle School, Giles Lions!

Hello, my name is Mrs. Karanikolas.

This year, I will be the English Language (EL) Teacher for Giles School, supporting newcomers and bilingual students. I am Greek-American; therefore, I genuinely understand culture & diversity; including the challenges parents and children face as they transition to a new country, new community, and new school. I am your child's advocate and will be collaborating with your child's core, subject-area teachers. I am happy to partner with you to best support your child. Together, we will work out a plan to ensure your child is learning and making strong progress, academically and emotionally, throughout the school year. Norridge District 80 has a plethora of support services for all learners.

I will be the "Specials" Instructor for 5th-8th grades; supporting all our middle school students with Vocabulary & Writing; Second Step, Xello, DARE, and more; depending on the grade level and trimester.

I will also be a 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher. Your child will check in every day and house their personal belongings in my classroom. Homeroom is every day from 8:10-8:15a. All students are highly encouraged to arrive to homeroom promptly in order to be on time for their Block 1 Class.

I have been so fortunate to be a part of this small-town community; watching our children grow and become successful adults and citizens of our world. I began teaching English in the year 2000 at Giles, worked at Leigh for 18 years as the EL teacher, taught 3rd grade, and now, I'm back!

Best wishes to a happy and successful school year, for all!
