Every October, our district celebrates Unity Day and Unity Week. It is an annual event that occurs during National Bullying Prevention Month (October) that promotes joining together to create healthier communities through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. It was started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in 2011 and is now celebrated around the world.
As a school community, we encourage all of our students and staff (and families) to wear ORANGE on Unity Day to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
Students will participate in a lesson and activity about Unity at both schools.
The most important thing to remember is that we are coming together to celebrate kindness, acceptance, and inclusion—our whole school community of students, teachers, staff, and families—so that we can make a school that’s happier and healthier. Each of us can make our school a better place and every day is a new opportunity to wake up and ask yourself, How am I going to be kind today? How am I going to include others in my games, in my classroom lessons, or at lunch and recess today? How can I show others that they are wonderful just the way they are? That's what Unity Day is all about.
We encourage families to take this opportunity to talk to their children about bullying prevention and all the positive things we can do to build healthier communities.
