Cathleen Beachboard

Cathleen Beachboard is a teacher, author, and researcher.  After adopting five children out of a case of extreme abuse and neglect, she has been on a mission to improve outcomes for those who experience trauma and anxiety.  Cathleen has taught middle school English for the past 15 years.  She also works as a researcher holding an M.A. Psychology.  Her research focuses on psychological tools schools can use to help students and staff include psychological hope, resiliency, achievement, and happiness.

Utilizing Hope Science to Improve School Well-Being, Happiness, and Resilience

Hope is not simply an emotion. Hope is a science. Hope is one of the most robust predictors of GPA, future academic attainment, and overall resiliency. Measuring and raising hope levels can combat the effects of trauma and adverse childhood experiences, build motivation, and drive achievement. This session combines scientific research, tools, and strategies to increase hope and improve equity and life outcomes for students and staff.

Dr. Helen Crompton

Dr. Helen Crompton is the Executive Director of the Research Institute for digital Innovation in Learning (RIDIL) at ODUGlobal and a Professor of Instructional Technology at Old Dominion University. With a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and Technology in Education, she focuses her research on technology integration and learning with technologies, such as artificial intelligence, mobile devices, and virtual/mixed/augmented reality. Dr. Crompton is the CEO of Crompton Consulting.  Dr. Crompton is on Stanford’s list of the top 2% of scientists in the world.

Nancye Blair Black

Nancye Blair Black is an ISTE-certified educator, speaker, and consultant who cultivates dignity-driven instructional practices that empower educators, leaders, and students to succeed. Nancye is the author of nationally-implemented computer science curricula and several books, including Tablets in K-12 Education and the Hands-On AI Projects for the Classroom series. She is ISTE's AI Explorations Project Lead, ProjectSTEM's Director of Innovation, and a TC Games Research Lab leader.
