New Mexico Malayali Association
New Mexico Malayali Association
Over the years, various Malayali community members, and in some years, Malayali students of University of New Mexico (UNM) have volunteered their time, various resources and put together cultural get-togethers for Malayali community members. A formal structure became necessary since money was involved and finances (monies generated and expenses incurred) had to be accounted. Many community members expressed an interest and wanted to see a formal association initiated for the purpose of serving cultural interests of community members with ties to Kerala, with ties to Malayalam language or with interests in Kerala or Malayalam language. The New Mexico Malayali Association (NMMA) was formed and registered in 2019 with the State of New Mexico. The first event organized under the auspices of NMMA involved celebrations of Vishu and Easter on April 27, 2019.
NMMA (New Mexico Malayali Association) is dedicated to uniting the Malayali community, fostering cultural connections, and preserving the rich heritage of Kerala while actively engaging with and contributing to the New Mexico community. We strive to create a vibrant platform where members can celebrate their shared traditions, language, and culinary heritage while building lasting relationships both within our community and with our New Mexican neighbors through cultural exchange and volunteerism.
