NM Coalition to End Homelessness

2022 Housing Policy & Advocacy

Purpose

Homelessness is an epidemic and health crisis, with investments needed throughout the entire spectrum of homelessness. As NM grapples with the housing crisis, many families and individuals have fallen into homelessness. Advocates call on policy makers statewide to address the crisis through increasing support for people already experiencing homelessness, preventing more homelessness from occurring, increasing access to affordable housing, and supporting a collaborative system that streamlines access to support. Below is a list of the calls to action and investment for the 2022 legislative session that will benefit the entire state.

During the summer of 2021, the NM Coalition to End Homelessness adopted the following policy priorities based on the needs of the community to address homelessness. These guiding principals help to guide the coalition on what legislation is supported: 1) Increase support for people experiencing homelessness, 2) Prevent homelessness and evictions, 3) Increase affordable housing stock in NM, 4) Protect and increase funding for housing assistance programs, 5) Increase access to existing affordable housing, and 6) Support a Collaborative System
