During the month of November we held our Remembrance Day Assembly and created our Wall of Honour. Thank you to Ms. Costello, Mme Daly, Mr. Doucet and our Grade 6 students for leading us. We were honoured to welcome Gr. 6 families and special guests from the Royal Canadian Legion to this poignant assembly. Brigadier General (Retired) Tony Stack shared experiences with staff and students that helped us appreciate how our Armed Forces serve in war torn countries, and gave such a positive message of hope for peace and education in places where these can be difficult. We were also fortunate to have MHA Bernard Davis join our assembly.
On Friday, November 21, we held our annual Soup Day. A warming, delicious cup of soup with ingredients from the garden was enjoyed by all, with thanks to Chef Nick Walters, Mr. Hugh Keenan and Garden Committee Members.
On Friday, November 28, we held an assembly to acknowledge a generous donation by former student and local sports commentator Seth Hyde. Seth presented a cheque to cover the cost of a KES breakfast for one student for the entire school year. This donation will go to our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Program. We are thankful to Seth for his kindness and remembering his K-6 school.
Each year, our wonderful Vanier Elves, a team of staff members, make spirits bright at Vanier. We wish to thank Mme Sara Bassan, Ms. Alison Parrell, Ms. Debbie Shortall and all our Elves who are part of the effort to bring joy through giving and receiving this holiday season. This year, we have even had a group of students come forward with a donation after raising money for this cause this past summer!
For all the details on our Vanier Elves Project 2025, please see this note from the Elves!
Thank you for giving generously so that all can enjoy this special time with family.
We would also like to thank The Hyde Family (former student Seth Hyde, along with his Mom and Dad), who assist us each year in finding a wonderful outdoor tree.
We said good bye to our intern Holly Vaters this month. Ms. Vaters worked in 4E with Ms. Parrell. We wish Ms. Vaters the very best in her career in Education!
