Journal Activity
Create your own tree journal. Find a tree in your backyard, or near by your home. Follow the growth of the tree like the Japanese Maple in the webpage above. If your really handy with technology take pictures. If you enjoy writing and drawing pencil and paper style that's good to. Don't forget to date each entry, draw or take a picture and finally, briefly discuss what has happened.

Journal Activity: What do you see when you look at a tree?
Take a walk around your home with your plant journal. Pick out 10 random things and make a list. Next to each item print plant or not a plant. As we learn more about plants we will see what is made from a plant.

From the videos below, compile a list of the different ways seeds get around.
It's the time of year when flowers are starting to show growth. Take your journal and find flower to observe (watch). Draw your subject and date the picture. Write a sentence or two about what you see. Wait two days and do the same again. What has changed? Keep doing that until the flower is blooming . In the end, you will have observed and studied a plants growth. Good work!
If you are able to do the experiment great, but the video will show you everything you need to know. Read, then watch the video.
Question: What happens when a stalk of leafy celery is placed in water coloured by food dye.
Procedure: Get a piece of leafy celery stock. Ask a parent to cut some of the stem off. near the bottom. Place each piece of celery in coloured water.
Materials: food dye, celery, glass of water
Results: What do you think will happen? Take a guess.

• gums and resins (e.g., adhesives, rubber bands);
• perfumes (e.g., essential oils); and
• medicines (e.g., aspirin).
