Hi there! My name is Shawna Hayter and I will be filling in for Ms. Bourne for the school year. I'm originally from Norris Arm, NL. In 2016, I completed a Primary/Elementary degree with Memorial University of Newfoundland and continued my studies in Special Education. I have taught in a number of schools in the Avalon and Central areas but I am happy to have moved to Gander to be a part of the GC family.

My Role

I will be providing instruction for functional curriculum this school year, focusing on fostering independence through functional life skills. Life skills include such skills as, personal care, social skills, money identification and management, communication skills, food preparation, recreation and leisure. Through the generalization of skills and knowledge in these areas, I hope to provide students with the tools needed for future environments.
