At the end of this lesson, you will have a Google Classroom Class created for each group of students.
A group of students is defined by how you and any co-teachers intend to work with them. You can have single or multi-grade groupings, multiple in person cohorts or a single cohort, and one or more subjects.
In High School, a Class group tends to be one particular course, and maybe one slot of that course.
In Primary, a Class group tends to be a grade or cohort of students, with one Class used for all subjects.
The Class group can be what you need it to be. When working with co-teachers decide who will create the Class, this person is referred to as the primary Class owner.
At the top of the Classes page, click the Create or Join a class button ( + )
Select Create class.
Enter the class name. This is required.
(Optional) To enter a short description, grade level, or class time, click Section and enter the details. Students will see the Section on their Class card.
(Optional) To add a subject, click Subject and enter a name.
(Optional) To enter the location for the class, click Room and enter the details.
Click Create.
Now, create Google Classroom Classes for each group of your students.
The most common challenge for teachers when trying to create Classroom Classes is they do not have access to the Create class menu option. If this applies to you a quick request to your School Administration or School G Suite Administrator can get this fixed. Ask them to submit the Change Classroom Role form on the IT Assist Portal. This form will place the Create class menu option back for the teacher. The form is auto-processed and usually takes less than 5 min to fix the problem.
