Why Music?

"Tell me: I forget

Show me: I remember.

Involve me: I understand."

- Carl Orff

Music is essential to the human experience. Music is essential to a child's development. Music is essential to life.

Think about the last time you heard music. Think about the last time you listened to music. Think about the last movie or tv show you watched. Now imagine those without music.

Simply put: Music brings people together. If people are making music together, they are communicating verbally, visually, and aurally (listening). Music plays an integral role in literacy - meaning that skills and discipline gained through music practice can be applied to the learning (becoming literate) of language, maths, science, history/social studies, and numerous other areas.

Music enables an understanding of other people and cultures, and encourages learning through play and engagement.
