Astronomy and Astrophysics for Amateur Astronomers

The workshop aims to provide an overview of astronomy and astrophysics to school and college students through lectures, hands-on sessions and poster presentations by experts in the related fields. The participants will get a broad understanding of celestial objects and associated activities:  

• • The Sun: Interior and Atmosphere

  • Solar System & Exoplanets

  • Formation and Evolution of Stars

  • Our galaxy: the Milky Way

  • Types of Galaxies: Hubble classification

  • Ground and Space-based Observatories

  • Scope of Astronomy and Astrophysics

Activities of the Workshop

• Seminars and interactions

• A virtual tour to an astronomical observatory

• Hands-on sessions on:

  • Solar observations

  • Problem-solving

  • Telescope making

• Day & night* sky observations using telescopes

• Poster presentation

• Quizzes

*for night sky observation, 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm, participants have to make their arrangements for stay and food
