Mission Statement
Nishuane’s Grow Lab is a school-wide gardening and hands-on science program that invites students to explore the natural world, practice environmental stewardship, and engage all five senses while planting, observing, and tasting from the garden. Through outdoor and indoor lessons centered on experiential learning and scientific inquiry, students gain knowledge, skills, and a love for nature—all while having fun.
Funded by the PTA, run by engaged caregivers, and supported by teachers, Grow Lab covers everything from composting with live worms to studying photosynthesis to caring for our vegetable, sensory, and native plant/butterfly gardens.
Welcome Volunteers!
Thank you for volunteering for Grow Lab this year! You’re giving the students in your child’s class an amazing experience, and they truly look forward to their Grow Lab lessons each month because of you!

Click here to access the Google Documents folder with all our monthly lesson plans for grades Pre-K-2nd. In each month's folder are the lesson plans, the introductory email for that's month's lessons, along with a FAQ for those lessons. Each lesson plan or resource is a Google Drive file you can view, print or download.
Garden Maintenance
Grow Lab keeps our gardens thriving throughout the growing seasons with events like Fall Clean Up, Spring Clean Up, Mulching Day, and summer maintenance. Be sure to check the Events page for upcoming garden gatherings—because it truly takes a village!

Grow Lab Committee
The Grow Lab Committee keeps Nishuane’s gardening and hands-on science program running smoothly behind the scenes. Committee members answer volunteer questions, restock and move supplies, and help maintain the gardens through seasonal cleanups. We also coordinate with each other to ensure materials are ready for every lesson. It’s a flexible, rewarding way to support students, teachers, and the joy of hands-on learning.
