Greetings Families!
It has been a wonderful start to the school year! Our students have jumped back in to our routines without missing a beat! I am so proud of all of the work our teachers have done to prepare for our students return and because of that preparation, our students are thriving in their new routines. This is such a celebration!
All of our students have been sorted in to one of our house teams! Our House System is such an important part of our culture at Beck. It unites students across grade-levels and builds a whole other level of belonging to our campus. Every Wednesday, students and teachers wear our House shirts. Students are able to sit with their houses at lunch and ice cream is available for purchase only on House day too. We try to add some fun House competitions throughout the quarter and a culminating House Rally each quarter to announce which House is in the lead for points. Points can be earned by anyone throughout the school day for showing any of our True Blue character traits: Respectful, Responsible, Cooperative, Honest, and Appreciative of Others. Students can also earn House points by showing our Strive for Five goals: Greeting others (and using their name when possible), making eye contact when speaking, saying please and thank you, saying yes ma'am-yes sir, and we have added swift transitions to our goals this year. We work on these traits as a school because we believe they make a positive impact in our ability to connect with each other and build on our social awareness. At the end of the school year, we host an Amazing Shake Competition that all students participate in to show off these important skills. Parents and our community are invited to help us with this competition. I will share more news about this as the year progresses, but wanted to share this initiative with you as you start to hear your Bulldog use these traits!
Always True Blue,
Amanda Bunch

We have now been in school for a full week. It's been so fun to see all of our Bulldogs get back into the swing of things. Each classroom is building community through morning meeting from 7:40-8:00 each morning. This is a great time for students to celebrate each other, share about themselves and just have fun! We are learning expectations and everything related to Beck. I will begin going into classrooms in September. Please see the Dot day flyer below. This is a day to celebrate being special, unique and one of a kind. All students are welcome to wear Dots.
We read the story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds that celebrates creativity, courage, and collaboration. The Dot is a story about a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to "make her mark." What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becoems a breakthrough in confidence and courage.
We break out of dot clothing to celebrate our creativity and courage!
